The London Festival of Architecture is a biennial, citywide exploration and celebration of London’s built environment. Now in its fourth edition, it is produced collaboratively by London’s leading architectural organisations—The Architecture Foundation (AF), New London Architecture (NLA) and the Royal Institute of British Architects London Region (RIBA)—in coordination with a broad range of cultural and professional partners. The festival reaches three key audiences: the general public (both Londoners and national and international visitors), the city’s political decision makers, and built environment professionals. The Festival will take place from 19 June to 4 July 2010, encompassing three weekends and two intervening weeks for the core programme. Independent projects, especially exhibitions and installations could last longer. |
The theme of the LFA2010 is The Welcoming City, a reference to the design of cities which are amenable, tolerant and engaging, as well as to the Olympic slogan for 2012 that “London welcomes the world”. The Festival will take place across London although there will be three focus areas – Nash Ramblas (West End), High Street 2012 (City, East End and Olympics) and Bankside Urban Forest (Southbank Cultural Quarter).
