The Crystal Palace reappears... Interventions of Memory
20 June - 6 July Multiple Locations in Hyde Park & Exhibition Road

On the site of the Great Exhibition of 1851 in Hyde Park, the exact footprint of the Crystal Palace will be physically marked out, creating a mnemonic space in which visitors can experience and reflect on the site’s past, present and future.
This footprint consists of over a thousand plastic markers installed at twenty-four foot modules positioned to define certain spaces for specific intervention that help reveal a sense of place, scale and history.
In the weekend long event, historians, artists, performers and architects will re-interpret this unique space to engage the public with walkabouts, performances and installations.
Artists will be asked to explore the contested memory of the Palace and eminent historians will provide talks and walkabouts to contextualise the space and its meaning.
This work is part of an ongoing exploration into the narratives of memory in our urban landscape and how in turn these narratives can appropriate space to develop our understanding of place, community and identity.
