Portavilion: Dan Graham Pavilion
20 June - 20 July Holland Park
The Dutch Garden Holland Park London, W8 6LU

Portavilion is a portable public art project that will occupy a trail of high profile parks across Central London throughout the summer 2008. A group of highly acclaimed international artists will present their own temporary ‘pavilion’ specially created for a park environment as a celebration of London’s most treasured public spaces. Portavilion is one of the most ambitious contemporary art projects to take place in London’s public realm. Its multiple sites will form a trail across a range of Central London boroughs, which can be navigated by bike, on foot or public transport.
First to launch is Triangular Pavilion with Circular Cut-out by American artist Dan Graham, a signature work that combines clear glass and two way mirrors in triangular formation, presented in the Dutch Garden in Holland Park , Kensington. An exhibition of video footage of Graham’s performance works will be shown simultaneously in the Ice House Gallery, Holland Park between June 7 and August 15 2008.
Dan Graham (b. 1942) lives and works in New York. Dan Graham is a highly influential figure in the field of contemporary art, both as a practitioner of conceptual art and as a well-versed art critic and theorist. His oeuvre spans over 40 years and he is considered the “guru” of artists’ pavilions having interrogated the concept since the 1970s, as well as exploring issues such of exhibitionism, reflection, mirroring and the mundane through his performances and writings. In London he designed the Waterloo Sunset Pavilion extension of the Hayward Gallery in collaboration with Haworth Tomkins architects
Portavilion is an UP PROJECTS production for London's parks curated by Emma Underhill
