Hairywood Tower
20 June - 31 July Covent Garden Piazza
Covent Garden London London, WC2E 9DD

The Hairywood Tower installation is being rebuilt in Covent Garden Piazza as part of Skin + Bones: Parallel Practices in Fashion and Architecture at Somerset House.
The Hairywood installation is the result of a collaboration between 6a Architects and Eley Kishimoto, and curated by The Architecture Foundation. The outside of the tower is clad with plywood, laser cut with Eley Kishimoto’s pattern of Rapunzel’s hair allowing dappled light into the interior. At night, the tower is lit from within and glows like a lantern.
The landmark tower first occupied a space outside The Architecture Foundation’s Yard Gallery for four months in 2005, where the combination of architecture and pattern temporarily transformed the small space on Old Street. The tower itself offers an intimate escape from the city, to sit in the sun and watch the world go by.
The model of the Hairwyood tower can be seen in the Skin + Bones exhibition at Somerset House until 10 August, and can be experienced in Covent Garden throughout June and July.
